What are gaskets and what is important?

What are gaskets needed for? Very briefly, in all places in the engine where two "hard" materials touch, gaskets prevent fluid from leaking from one part to the other or to the outside. This is why we also use the term "seals" for gaskets. Seems like a simple task, but this part requires a lot. Depending on the task and location in the engine, a gasket can be made of (hard) rubber, aluminum, cork or even paper. Most head gaskets in today's engines are made of multiple thin layers of steel on top of each other. This is called Multi Layer Steel, MLS. These gaskets can withstand higher (combustion) pressures and cope better with greater temperature differences. Gaskets come in hundreds of types, for dozens of different functions, for both passenger cars and the larger engines in trucks, ships, in industry and agriculture. One of the many types is the cylinder head gasket, which we also sell under the name Private Label, for various applications.
